A walk around Singapore (30 Nov - 2 Dec '11)

An almost monthly pilgrimage. This time I was armed with my new Canon EF 85mm f1.8 and the Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8L. 95% of my shots was with the former, which I have to say, is very nice. It's fast to focus, light and cheap for the results you get. Many people say it's not very sharp at f1.8, but I think it's very acceptable.

On approach

The skies were mostly cloudy for this trip which means the lighting is pretty much perfect for photography.

I stayed near my old neighborhood which has a famous Guan Yin Temple. Lots of tourists and colorful flowers and offerings on display.

Waterloo Street (where the temple is located) is also a haven for pigeons.

It is the end of the year and the holiday mood is clearly in evidence. Orchard Road, the main shopping belt in Singapore has also been decked out in Christmas decorations throughout. The lights give a very nice blue-purple tone to the photos.

Rare empty spot

I love taking photos from across the street at a taxi stand, bus stand or traffic lights. I find that I can get a wide variety of stances, expressions and actions by the people standing there.

Late at night, the heavy duty jobs of keeping Singapore's streets clean and clear are done.

A very satisfying 3 days of shooting as I got quite a few nice shots this time. I end this post with my favorite shot of this trip, which I got while waiting at a traffic light stop. Shots like this just can't be posed :).

As for the Canon 85mm f1.8, it's now my favorite lens!
